How to: Install a serial mouse.
Solution:
Turn off the computer, connect the new mouse to a serial port, and turn on the computer. Install a serial mouse driver if necessary.
1) Shut down Windows 95, and turn off the computer.
2) Connect the new mouse to a serial port on the back of the base unit.
NOTE 1: Serial port connectors are commonly a 9-pin (DB9) or 25-pin (DB25) female adapter. Mice use a 9-pin (DB9) connector.
NOTE 2: A mouse can be connected to a 25-pin (DB25) adapter using a 25-pin male to 9-pin female converter.
3) Turn on the computer.
NOTE: Windows 95 may auto-detect and configure the mouse.
4) If the mouse was not auto-detected, install the mouse driver.
NOTE 1: If your computer has a PS/2 port, you may need to disable the PS/2 port before installing the new mouse.
NOTE 2: The mouse installation disk may include a program that tests the mouse installation (typically named Test.com). Refer to the mouse installation manual for detailed configuration information.
